Reconnect is a not-for-profit company that supports organizations working with individuals who display high levels of dysfunction in interpersonal relationships. At the heart of this work are individuals who have been unable to form healthy close connections with others, to the extent that they and/or those close to them are at risk of serious harm. Where there is a risk of harm to others, this work is informed by the experience of victims.
Our aim is to support organizations to provide strong evidence-based services. We do this through:
- Increasing and sharing knowledge. We conduct research that adds to the evidence of what works, we summarise existing evidence, and we evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. We also make sure that this knowledge is accessible to services that we support.
- Providing training. We train staff in the knowledge and skills needed for effective service delivery.
- Providing support through clinical management, mentoring and supervision to staff working in specialised services, so that they can better integrate their learning into their daily work.
Reconnect was founded in January 2020, but builds on decades of frontline and research experience. We aim to create bridges between practice and research, supporting evidence-based interventions with individuals who are at risk of causing harm to others or themselves in the context of their interpersonal relationships.
Reconnect is led by Jonathan Fowler, who has been working around the impacts of violence and abuse in families since the early 90s. His work experience includes 10 years as a therapist in secure psychiatric services, where he worked with a broad range of clients, but specialised in working with complex PTSD and Dissociative Disorders, usually linked to early childhood (sexual) abuse. His work remains trauma-informed.
Other associates also bring many years of experience in mental health services, probation services and the voluntary sector.
